Two years in the making, this series showcases some of the amazing “Strong Women” in my life.
This work, loosely reimagines the symbolic “seven virtues”:
Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Fortitude, Faith, Charity and Hope. These “virtues” are traditionally portrayed as objectified symbols of young virgin women at the height of innocence.
In this series, each women still holds the historical symbols of the virtue they represent however, I wanted these virtues to be represented by real women doing real things, honored for their roles as being “virtuous” in the everyday expectation and experience of being a woman.
Each painting stands independently on its own, much like the woman I know, but collectively the paintings create a rainbow. This color extravaganza is meant as a nod to women’s collective power and a tribute to other symbols of acceptance.
